Character Creation

Ok, so I've been working on creating a new fantasy world for the last couple days.  I've finally started working on the first story that goes with this new fantasy world.  The following is the basic characters that the story will revolve around.  Haven't worked out all the kinks yet (character names may change), so there may be flaws here haha.  Oh by the way, for you writers out there, if you haven't found this website yet, I highly recommend it  -- it helped me a ton:

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the characters I created.  Leave a comment so I know what you think.  Enjoy:

Characters:

Illum:

Black, greasy hair gently hangs over a long, warm face.  Smart blue eyes watch vigilantly over his friends.  Scars stretching from just under his left eyebrow, running towards his right nostril and ending on his right cheekbone leaves a grievous memory of a prior duel.  There’s something captivating about him; perhaps it’s his goodwill or perhaps it’s simply his warmth.  But nonetheless, people tend to befriend him, while trying to please him.  Illum was once the servant of the Bruqon family, but became the harpist in King Yurid’s court.  While working in King Yurid’s court, Illum befriended Prince Maollan.  King Yurid ordered Illum’s capture for treason soon after.  Illum then fled to all the holds within the Kingdom of Abatral, until he finally sailed from Iakko to the Aquos Island.  He travels with his two closest friends Randle and Perseus.

Randle:

Dark brown, shaggy hair reveals a friendly face.  Gentle brown eyes, set sunken within their sockets, watch slowly over the friends he’s been with for so long.  He has a sturdy frame and stands average among others.  There’s something obscure about him.  Perhaps it’s his tenderness or perhaps it’s simply his clumsiness.  But nonetheless, people tend to take pride in knowing him as a friend.  Randle is one of the two close friends of Illum.  Randle is often the comic relief of the group, making light of situations.
Perseus:

Chestnut hair hangs over a skinny, charming face.  Woeful brown eyes, set narrowly within their sockets, watch yearningly over the people they’ve cared for for so long.  A scar reaching from the right side of the forehead, running across the nose and ending on his upper lip leaves a heartbreaking memory of companionship.  He stands average among others.  There’s something bewildering about him; perhaps it’s his feeling of longingness or his feelings of sadness.  Perseus is one of the two close friends of Illum.  Perseus is often the voice of reason in the group, always able to give wise advice.

Maollan:

Blonde, perfectly groomed hair awkwardly hangs over a soft, warm face.  Piercing hazel eyes, set low within their sockets, watch eagerly over the lands and people that he loves.  Dark stubble seductively compliments his eyes and cheekbones.  He has scars just under the left eye, running towards the right side of his lips and ending on his left nostril, leaves a painful reminder of a lost battle.  Prince Maollan is the son of Yurid, and the crown prince.  Maollan has had a troubled past, but when he became friends with Illum many years ago, his life was turned around.  Maollan lives a difficult life, and his future is uncertain.

Yurid:

Silver, long hair hangs over a bony, time-worn face.  Blood-shot hazel eyes, set lightly within their sockets, watch heartily over the chaos he has created.  Old, wrinkly skin evilly compliments his actions during his life.   King Yurid is the ruler of the Kingdom of Abatral.  He has ruled for the past twenty years with an iron fist as a tyrant.  He wishes to see the entire world under his grasp.

Yarmik:

Black, long hair tied in a ponytail reveal a menacing face.  Dead hazel eyes, set elegantly within their sockets, watch vigilantly over Abatral’s enemies.  A sword mark reaching from under the right eye, running towards his right-nostril and ending on his left cheekbone leaves a grievous reminder of a troubled past.  There is something incomprehensible about him; perhaps it’s his attitude or perhaps it’s simply his suffering.  But nonetheless, people tend to shower him with praises, while trying to hide from him.  Yarmik is the leader of Yurid’s Black Hand, or assassins.  Yarmik has been hunting down Illum for years, under orders to kill those with him and to bring Illum before Yurid.

Roland:

Golden wavy hair tied in a ponytail reveals a lean, menacing face.  Expressive brown eyes, set charmingly within their sockets, watch yearningly over the King they’ve sworn to protect.  A scar reaching from just under the right eyebrow, running towards is upper lip and ending on his upper lip leaves a grievous memory of his ex-love.  This is the face of Commander Roland, the officer in charge of the Royal Guard in the capital of Enochai.  He is the right hand of King Yurid.  People tend to brag about knowing him, while secretly despising him.  Roland despises Illum, as he believes he is the leader of the rebellion, and thus the reason that his ex-lover left him.

A Journey

Time is a funny thing you know.
It's odd how fast it goes by when you reflect on it;
And how slow it goes when you're living in the moment.

It's been two years since I started my journey to becoming a History Teacher.  Shoot, if anyone would have told me three years ago that I would be going to college to become a teacher, I would have told them they were crazy.  But look at me now; two years of college, and I still have this deep burning desire to make a difference in the lives of the students that I will one day teach.

Two years ago I started on a journey that would open my eyes.  I took an internship with Mr. Jeff Sprunger, an 8th Grade US History teacher at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School.  I would go over to the Middle School about two hours a day, for every single day of the week my entire senior year of high school.  At the start of the whole thing, I was uncertain.  Hell, when I signed up to do the internship I was uncertain.  It was only because of my friend Landin Madsen that I actually signed up to take it - and that was because when I asked him if he thought I should take it, he told me, "You never know unless you try."  So I signed up to take the internship.  None of it would have been possible had it not been for my internship teacher/supervisor Mr. Darren Parker.

Had Mr. Sprunger not sent me to go and work with a student one-on-one with his late homework assignments, I would not be the person who I am today.  Working with that student made me believe that I can make a difference in others lives.  I soon was working with multiple students, getting to know them, and falling in love with the idea of becoming a teacher.  Sure there were some days that I hated it, but doesn't every job have those days.

Two years ago from this very day - May 23, 2014 - I went on a field trip with the 8th graders that I had been working with that whole year.  We went to the Science & Industry Museum, the Lincoln Park Zoo, Cloud Gate, and the Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois.  That day was life changing for me.  That was when I realized that teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life.  I remember when I was in middle school, and how hard life was for me - I want to make a difference in the lives of students so that I can help prevent what happened to me, happening to them.  I also want to teach them history because history is one of the most amazing subjects in the world!

The people who I wanna recognize for helping me see what I want to do with my life are the following because they made the difference in my life, made the internship possible, or supported me all the way:
Landin Madsen, Eric Wright, Isaac Randall, Jeff Shriver, Lisa Paxton, Dawn Gagnon, Leonard Gagnon, Darren Parker, Jeff Sprunger, Nancy Rhoades, Larry Rhoades, Tom Craig, Mandy Walters, Bret Walters, Tyler McDonald, and Juan Baca.

To all of you thank you!  I could not be who I am today without you.

I know that things can change in the next few years - a lot has changed in the past two - but as of right now, I can't see myself doing anything else with my life.
