Darkest Hour

I feel like that often times when the average person thinks of World War II, we often think of great evil vs great good.  We seem to romanticize that war and how what the Allies did was just and true.

Now, I am not disagreeing with this.  However, I believe too often we forget how close we were to losing the second World War.  The destruction of the Franco-British Army, and Hitler's Blitzkrieg into France.  The Le Paradis Massacre and several other instances that led up to the Battle of Dunkirk.

If Hitler had never invaded Russia, it's very likely that soon the Battle for Britain would have ended in a violent invasion of the British Isles.  I have no doubt the British would've fought to the death, but I also believe the Nazi Germans would've succeeded in total control of the British Isles, forming a puppet government similar to the Vichy Government of France.

This tribute video that I put together about a year ago is in memory of the hopelessness for the light of freedom at the start of the second World War.  It also shows that against impossible odds, there is still light.  Churchill had his issues, that is for sure.  But, man.  Without him, I believe the world be far darker than it is today.

The beginning of the video has Hitler speaking.  This is an audio clipped from a speech he gave where he basically said that once Germany has regained power and glory he will give back the power given to him.  The video goes on to show Churchill's legendary speech to Parliament as the British Empire proclaims they will continue to fight on to the end.  The end of the video moves on to US President FDR giving the declaration of War against Japan after the Pearl Harbor bombing.
