Star Wars Rebels Season 1 -- First half

As Star Wars Rebels Season 4 is entering into its last episodes, I have decided to do a series review of it.  I'm going to start with Season 1 Episodes 1-9 and go from there.

Now many Star Wars fans like to claim that Rebels isn't worth their time, especially after the Clone Wars TV series.  I agree that Rebels had a rough start, however it has increased in quality over time.  Season 3 was amazing and Season 4 is even better.  Dave Filoni and his team continue to do an amazing job.  Whether that is writing a good planned out story, bringing legends concepts and characters back to canon, or making some really cool visual scenes.  In fact, if you liked Star Wars the Clone Wars, I believe it should be highly recommended that you begin to and continue to watch Star Wars Rebels.

Season 1 of Rebels had a rough start in my opinion; but what tv show doesn't have a rough first season?

Rebels started off with four shorts to introduce the characters:

Here's a link to all the Star Wars Rebels Shorts  ----   SWRS
--- Thanks to Jeffrey Reisdorf for putting them into a playlist.

From here on out, Spoilers Ahead
*****************

This is the opening scene of the first episode.  The part at 2:25 is one of the best scenes to introduce the show and where it is going.  The original connection between Kanan and Ezra is well played.

As the season premier opens up, it introduces the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) as well as Agent Kallus.  Kallus captures Ezra when the Ghost Crews fails at their mission.  Kallus during the first two seasons seems irrelevant -- almost like that pesky antagonist who won't leave the group of main characters alone.  However, Kallus will eventually play a bigger role, making him one of my favorite characters in this show.

In this clip, it shows the introduction to Agent Kallus.  Before this scene happened, Ezra stole a Jedi Holocron from Kanan on the ship called the Ghost.  He opens it, making an important connection between Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Episode 3 (the coded message that Obi-Wan leaves at the Jedi Temple in Episode 3):

Then of course, there is the epic scene of the opening premier.  Although it isn't hard to figure out the truth, Kanan's reveal that he is a Jedi is amazing.  And the response of Agent Kallus expands on the Empire's continual purge of the Jedi Order.  This is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire show:

At the end of the first episode, we see Agent Kallus calling the Grand Inquisitor.  This is awesome because it introduces an entire sect of dark side users who aren't fully Sith -- like Darth Vader and Sidious:

The most important thing from this episode is the message that Obi-Wan left, which makes me legitimize Star Wars Rebels as a show in general.  The Jedi Holocron will make an appearance in later seasons, having an actual role that will affect the main characters of the show:

After the season premier, we are acquainted with the Ghost Crew.  Hera Syndulla, the captain of the Ghost (and probably the best pilot in the galaxy -- next to Han [we'll see what Solo movie says] ), Chopper (c1-10p is a veteran of the Clone Wars whose y-wing was shot down during the ryloth campaign -- which a connection to the Clone Wars Series), Sabine Wren (a mandalorian who was formerly a cadet of the Imperial Academy on Mandalore -- which may be another connection back to the Clone Wars series), Garazeb Orrelios (one of the last Lasat and survivor of basically an Imperial Genocide carried out on his people, which will give him an interesting connection to Agent Kallus later [also, did you know Zeb was the original design for Chewie?] ), Kanan Jarrus (the padawan of Jedi Master Depa Billaba -- he escaped execution after the Great Jedi Purge, which will give way to an interesting story line in season 2), and of course, Ezra Bridger (an orphan boy from Lothal with incredible force sensitivity, whose parents stood up against the Empire and disappeared).

The next couple episodes were basically filler episodes, but important none the less.  Episode 3 gives introduction to R2-D2 and C3PO, as well as Bail Organa (who is one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance).  It also gives a little backstory to Zeb and what happened to his people.

Episode 4 is a mostly forgettable episode.  It accomplishes showing the growing brother like relationship between Zeb and Ezra.  They steal a TIE Fighter and end up hiding it in the hills of Lothal.  This TIE Fighter will play a role in a later episode.

Episode 5 was incredibly important.  The Rebels are tricked into going to an Imperial Prison to save Master Luminara Unduli.  However, when they get there, they find that she had died a long time ago.  It introduced the Grand Inquisitor and the Inquisitor rotating lightsaber.  An interesting concept is that we learn the Inquisitors, specifically the Grand Inquisitor, study all the lightsaber forms of the Jedi in order to kill other Jedi:

Episode 6 was an interesting look at what goes on inside an Imperial Academy.  It is also a good episode to build on Ezra's character.  We learn in this episode that the Inquisitors seek out force sensitives and capture them.  Which seems very similar to an episode arc in the Clone Wars where Sidious attempted to steal force sensitive children and use them as dark side adepts.  We also are introduced to a Force Sensitive that was of interest to the Grand Inquisitor -- Jai Kell.  Though he plays a minor role, he will return in later episodes.

Episode 7 is crazy.  It furthers the mystery of the Ghost Crew's mission finder known as "Fulcrum."  It does a good job of building Sabine's character as well as her relationship with Hera.  It also introduces an Asteroid Base that was once used during the Clone Wars and that will be visited in a near episode.  We learn that "Fulcrum" is an agent that helps supply missions and resources to multiple Rebel Cells.  This infers that there are hundreds of cells across the galaxy not yet formed into the Rebel Alliance.

Episode 8 introduces a character called Tseebo at fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of the Galactic Empire.  This episode serves as character development for Ezra, mostly because the dubbed "Empire Day" is on his birthday.  We learn more about Ezra's parents and are hinted to that they may be alive by Tseebo, who was a close friend of them.

Episode 9 is the second part to 8, where we see the Grand Inquisitor shoot a tracking beacon onto the Phantom (the smaller ship the connects to the Ghost).  Ezra and Kanan escape in the phantom and go to the Asteroid Base that was seen in episode 7.  Ezra uses the force to control the beasts that inhabit the Base, which brings back the concept of Beast Trick that was used in Star Wars Episode 2 by Anakin in the Arena and from the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords video game.   The Grand Inquisitor follows them with Stormtroopers.  We get see this fight between Ezra and Kanan against the Grand Inquisitor, as well as see Ezra's use of the Dark Side for the first time:

Alright, so there is the first 9 episodes of Rebels.  Here is a fan-made trailer for the entire season.  My next post will be over the second half of Star Wars Rebels Season 1:

What we learned

For you people who are as much as a Star Wars nerd as I am, you'd probably know that Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 is going on this weekend.  For those of you who don't know what's going on in the world of Star Wars, let me bring ya up to speed:

If you didn't know, Star Wars Rebels Season 3 ended on an epic note!  It had a beautiful ending with Grand Admiral Thrawn delivering a devastating blow to the Rebel Alliance.  If you haven't seen the Season Finale for Star Wars Rebels Season 3, go watch the two part episode now.  It was epic!

Here is the mid-season trailer from earlier this year:

I believe that looking back, Season 1 of Rebels was about establishing the main Characters, and ending with a threat of what was to come.  Season 2 was more focused on Ezra and Kanan's relationship, and Ezra's force powers being realized.  I think it also showed the Dark threat of the Empire slowly getting stronger as the Rebellion starts to slowly come together.  Especially with the use of the overarching threat of Darth Vader over the entire season, but not knowing when he would returned was a good added feature.  The season finale of season 2 left the main characters, especially Ezra, questioning themselves and thinking that they had failed.

And here we were in season 3, with the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn.  Thrawn sits back and watches for most of the season.  It isn't until close to the end of season 3 that Thrawn makes his move.  It also brings back the Mandalorian archs, which I am more than positive will come back in season 4.

Season 4 has been confirmed.  Dave Filoni, the director of Star Wars Rebels, has also confirmed that Season 4 will be the last season of Star Wars Rebels.  I can only guess that the series will end at the Battle of Scarif, where the new movie Rogue One ended.  I hope that they bring in Director Krennic as a character as well, since the Death Star is nearing its completion.  I also hope that Cassian and a few of the other characters from Rogue One get thrown in here too.  Filoni stated that season 4 will still have those light moments seen in all the seasons, but he also said that as we get closer to the Rogue One/Episode 4 time period, we will see the show start to get ever darker as the empire tries to put an end to the rebellion.

Here is the newly released trailer for Season 4 of Star Wars Rebels:

Next I'm gonna talk about the new Star Wars Battlefront II game.  It seems like it is gonna be a good one.  It has been confirmed to have a Single Player Campaign - thankfully!!! It seems to have a few good mods to be coming to it - it won't be a complete demo game like the last Star Wars Battlefront game.  It seems that it might be focused on the point of view of the Galactic Empire.

It was revealed that the story for the campaign will take place right at the end of Return of the Jedi and connect that story to the new star wars movies - the Force Awakens.  It also seems that all eras of star wars - Prequel, Original, and New - will all be playable. Also it looks like that they are gonna bring back the character classes that were in the original Star Wars Battlefront games.  They are gonna bring back Space Battles too.  It seems like this game will redeem the demo game we got a couple years ago when the force awakens came out :)
World Wide release is November 17, 2017.

Here is the trailer for the new Star Wars Battlefront II game:

And here we go.  The final thing I'm gonna bring ya up to speed with is the new Star Wars the Last Jedi movie coming out this December! I believe, if I heard correctly, Carrie Fisher, before she passed away, did shoot some scenes that will remain in this movie.  It seems that the Last Jedi will go deeper into Rey's story, which is awesome because I thought that was the biggest flaw with the first movie.
Daisy Ridley said that one of the biggest things we will be happy about is "Luke's first words." :D
There are gonna be new characters put in, and the return of some old ones.  It seems like this one is gonna be a really good movie.

By the way - if you've never heard Mark Hamill talk about star wars or anything for that matter, change that.  Mark Hamill is hilarious to listen to :)

So here ya are Star Wars The Last Jedi Trailer:

Hey all!!  Happy 40 years of Star Wars!!!!!!!!

Here again are few awesome videos regarding Star Wars over the years!!!

Here is, in my opinion, the best lightsaber/force power scene in Star Wars history.  (Rogue One spoilers if you haven't seen it yet):

Have an awesome weekend!!!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Going Rogue

Alrighty.  So if you've been following my blog for sometime now, you know that I'm definitely a Star Wars nerd.
*I believe it says that over here somewhere 😀-----------------------à

Naturally I watched Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it came out.  It was epic.  I watched it three times in the theater.  In my opinion it is my number three Star Wars Movie so far (1. Episode 5, 2. Episode 3, and 3. Rogue One).

I think that Rogue One was an excellent way to start off the Star Wars stand alone films.  There is a Han Solo stand alone coming out after Episode 8, and many more after that.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

The Cons:

Star Wars Rogue One had a few cons.

The biggest one was not enough character depth.  However it is somewhat understandable, where in the Star Wars Saga Movies (Episodes 1-7) they develop the characters over multiple movies.  There is only so much character depth you can have in one movie.  And with the ending that Rogue One had...**MAJOR SPOILER**... with all the main characters dying at the end, it is rather hard to develop characters after death...unless your a blue force ghost or something...

The second con, which I think it was more of the Star Wars fan in me being a little upset, was that Bail Organa didn't speak that much.  I wish we could have heard the guy who basically is one of the main founders of the Rebel Alliance speak more.  It could have been a perfect opportunity to make even bigger connections between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy.

But that was pretty much the only complaints that I had for Rogue One.  Now onto the best things that Rogue One did:

The Pros:

The Dark Times.  When Obi Wan says:

We realize what he was talking about in Rogue One.  The Rebel Alliance, by the time of Rogue One has only done small things to wound the Empire.  Imperial Officials would even classify the Rebels as terrorist insurgents.  You really see that in the fighting scene on Jedha, when Saw Gerrera's rebels attack the Stormtroopers.  And by the end of the movie, the Rebel Alliance council members are talking about breaking up the alliance, you realize that the Rebels are really close to falling apart.  And even the ending of the movie, what Jyn Erso says to the rebels she is leading to the Planet Scarif, "They've no idea we're coming. They've no reason to expect us. If we can make it to the ground, we'll take the next chance, and the next, on and on until we win, or the chances are spent." - from Wookieepedia.
It really shows that the Rebels are desperate and probably would not last much longer if Jyn and her Rogue One crew didn't go to Scarif.  It kinda goes back to what Princess Leia says in a New Hope:

Alright, the second Pro to the movie was how it cut from scene to scene.  You ever notice in the Star Wars Saga that from scene to scene it looks like it was put in a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show?  Well that doesn't happen in Rogue One.  In fact, where that would normally happen in a Star Wars movie, the story continues.  It's often in those moments that we have the best character development.  The best scene to do this was when the main characters were leaving Eadu, where Jyn's father - Galen Erso - dies.  When the characters leave Eadu that don't just leave it there.  They actually talk about what happened, causing conflict among the characters.  Plus it was a really sad scene when Galen dies, if you were following the movie entirely from Jyn's perspective.

The Third Pro was they brought Saw Gerrera to the big screen.  People who have watched Star Wars the Clone Wars TV series would recognize Saw as the Onderon Freedom Fighter.  This is what he looked like in the Clone Wars:
Image result for saw gerrera

And this is what he looks like in the Movie:
Image result for saw gerrera

And now he is going be in the second half of the TV show Star Wars Rebels Season 3 looking like this:
Image result for saw gerrera rebels

This was a really cool way to make the Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels seem more a part of the Star Wars Universe.

Another awesome part were all the Easter eggs in the movie.  There are too many to list, but one of my favorite ones was the fact that you see the Star Wars Rebels ship The Ghost fighting in the Space Battle of Scarif.

You see it here in the bottom left, next to the Hammerhead Cruiser:

Image result for Star Wars The Ghost rogue one

Also in the movie, you see it flying across the Rebel Command Ships view screen at least two times.  Though it is a small nod, it is a huge way to bring Star Wars Rebels into the Cinematic Star Wars Universe.

Another cool easter egg - and really his only line - was when Bail Organa and Mon Mothma were talking about Obi-Wan.  That was a pretty cool nod to Episode 4.  It was kind of a sad reminder that Bail Organa dies on Alderaan when the Death Star blows it up in Episode 4.

Another Pro of this movie was the villain.  Director Orson Krennic.  He was epic, and I believe that Ben Mendelsohn was the perfect actor to play him.  When Krennic talked to Vader on Mustafar, and everytime he tried to stand up and talk to Vader, Vader would just put him back in his place just by looking at him.  It was awesome.  Another cool thing was the color contrast between Krennic (wearing white) and his Death Troopers (wearing black).  It was cool how that matches up to Darth Vader (wearing Black) and the Stormtroopers (wearing white).  Just a little bit of symbolism.  Plus Krennic has a cape - and what good Villain doesn't have an awesome cape to go with them.

A great Pro of the movie was the casting.  All the actors did an amazing job.  They performed their roles perfectly.  The script for the movie wasn't too cheesy.  K-2SO was an awesome comic relief, reminding me somewhat of a Star Wars Legends character - HK-47.  I think another strong point of the movie was that there were no Jedi.  Because by now the Jedi are all but extinct:

And finally the best Pro was Darth Vader.  That after all is what sold tickets right? 😏
The first introduction to Vader was when Director Krennic went to Mustafar - yep the same planet where Vader and Obi-Wan had their duel, and where Padme died in epsiode 3.  It showed Vader's castle - which was a nice nod towards Star Wars Legends.  It also gave a revelation where in Star Wars Rebels season one, Hera says that Mustafar is the place where Jedi go to die:

Well I guess we know why now 😉
Just hearing James Earl Jones' voice as Darth Vader was just perfect.  And Vader's witty remark to Krennic that some people have complained was out of Vader's character, in my opinion fits well with him.  After, Vader does have witty remarks in the other films.

Related image

A strong point for the Rogue One movie, was not making Vader a present threat throughout the entire movie, as the main villain.  Director Edwards did a beautiful job of crafting Vader to being a looming threat throughout the whole film.  And then at last, we see the Darth Vader that we have always wanted to see.

Image result for vader in rogue one killing rebels

That scene where he just emerges from the dark, turning on his blood-red lightsaber, was perfect.  It was an epic ending to an epic movie.  And it ties beautifully into Star Wars Episode 4 because Episode 4 literally starts off right where Rogue One ends.  I also loved - in case you didn't know - that this scene showed Vader combine both force powers and lightsaber ability together, instead of showing one or the other.  In fact, I'm pretty sure it is the only scene in the Star Wars movies where it shows a Jedi or Sith using both force powers and a lightsaber at the same time.

Image result for vader in rogue one killing rebels

Anyway that is my review of Rogue One.  Go catch it in the theaters if you got the money and time, or wait for it to come out in late April 2017.  Also watch Star Wars Rebels.  It goes even deeper into the background context of the movies.  Star Wars Rebels returns this Saturday, Jan. 7.  Here's the season 3 mid-season trailer - It's GONNA BE EPIC!! 😃:

TOP 5 TV CHARACTERS

Don't forget to Follow and +1 this blog

I have watched a lot of TV shows...
Probably too many lol.
And Netflix is no help haha!! :D

Anyway, it is hard to exactly narrow down my favorite characters because there are so many.  So I'm gonna list the first five TV characters that I really like from the TV shows that I've seen:

5.  Leroy Jethro Gibbs

If you don't know who Gibbs is then you need to start watching this criminal investigation show called NCIS, portrayed by the awesome Mark Hamill.  Gibbs is the team leader of the NCIS Major Case Responsive Team (MCRT), which is stationed at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington D.C.

"He is a former U.S Marine Corps Scout Sniper turned special agent who commands a team for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Gibbs is the most accomplished marksman on the team and the most skilled at handling violent standoffs; he depends on his other agents heavily for technical forensics and background checks. He is patient but firm with his team and has little patience for bureaucracy; he commands most other main characters — including Caitlin Todd, Anthony DiNozzo, Timothy McGee, Ziva David, Eleanor Bishop, Tess Monroe, and Clayton Reeves — and is the backbone of the cast." - Wikipedia

If you haven't seen NCIS, you gotta go watch it.  At least till Season 11 when one of the best actors that held the show together left.  You should still watch it though :)

4.  Rumplestiltskin

Rumplestiltskin is the main villain - or is a hero - you know it's hard to tell at times...
Anyway, Rumplestiltskin is a major character in the TV show Once Upon a Time.

"Rumplestiltskin, also known as Rumple, the Dark One, and the Crocodile, is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He debuts in the first episode of the first season. He is portrayed by starring cast member Robert Carlyle and guest star Wyatt Oleff, and is the Enchanted Forest counterpart of Mr. Gold." - Wikipedia

Granted this show has some serious bad acting during the first couple seasons.  But I assure you if you stick with the show you won't be able to stop.  I love this shows interesting twists to the traditional Disney fairy tales, making a lot of the characters far more complex - though you'd never know it unless you continued to watch the show.

I give props to the writers, cause just as soon as you think the show can't go any further, they pull an entirely new thing out.

But Rumplestiltskin is probably the best complex villain in a live-action TV show I've seen in a while.  He has a reason why he craves power, though it isn't a good one; and he has an amazing ability to always get what he wants.  I love his character because just when you think he is about to redeem himself, he always goes backwards - which is great because it shows that you can't change over night.

3. Commander Charles Tucker

Yes, I'm speaking of the Engineer aboard the NX-01 Star ship Enterprise, from the TV show Star Trek: Enterprise.  I think it would be cliche to say my favorite character was Captain Jonathan Archer - though he probably has the best character development.  The second character who has the best character development is Commander Tucker or Trip.

"Commander Charles Tucker III, known affectionately as "Trip", was a 22nd century Starfleet officer. He served for ten years as chief engineer of Earth's first warp 5-capable starship, Enterprise NX-01, under the command of his best friend, Captain Jonathan Archer." - Wikipedia

Where a lot of characters are very dull and unimportant, I feel like Tucker was one of best.  He was a caring member of the crew but wasn't afraid to get the job done.  I guess that's why Archer trusts him so much.  Then of course there was the horrible ending to the series that I despised.  Of course, that is one way to see if people really liked the character.  If there is a lot of backlash then you must have been doing something right.

2. Sheriff Longmire

Yeah, so I've only started to watch this one, but... I CAN'T STOP.  lol

Longmire was introduced to me over Fall Break this year - a couple weeks ago.  And lordy, it is amazing.  In case you didn't know I love Crime Drama shows - NCIS, Criminal Minds, Longmire, Person of Interest, and so on...

"Absaroka County native Walt Longmire is the well-respected sheriff that resides there. When the series begins, it is believed by most his wife, Martha Longmire, died of cancer." - Wikipedia

This show is truly addicting and amazing.  I recommend it to everyone that likes Crime Dramas.

1. Ezra Bridger

Was there any doubt that I'd make a Star Wars reference lol :)

Ezra Bridger is a character from the new TV series director by the awesome Dave Filoni.  Ezra was born the day that the Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Empire, and had to grow up in fallout that happened afterwards.  Ezra is introduced to the early beginnings of the Rebel Alliance.  He also has a high affinity to the force - something that drives him in the first season.  He is trained by a former Jedi Padawan, who survived the execution of Order 66, Kanan Jarrus.

"Ezra Bridger was a human male Jedi Padawan who, as an orphan on the Outer Rim planet of Lothal, became a rebel fighter and revolutionary leader in the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire. He was born to Ephraim and Mira Bridger, two outspoken opponents of the Imperial regime on Lothal. As a boy, his parents were taken prisoner by the Empire, leaving Bridger to fend for himself on the streets of Lothal. He joined the rebel crew of the Ghost five years before the Battle of Yavin and, with his Force-sensitivity having been discovered, became the apprentice of Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi who survived Order 66. Bridger's abilities with the Force grew quickly, which aided in many of the crew's efforts against the Empire." - Wikipedia

Yes, Star Wars Rebels takes place five years before the events of Episode 4.  Which makes me hope, that (knowing that Season 3 is probably the last one) season 3 ends where Star Wars Rogue One Begins!!  That would be epically awesome!!  A beautiful way to make these animated TV shows feel more like Canon as they are tied into the movies!! :)

Can you just imagine....

Yep that's pretty much it!! :D

Have an awesome day!! :D :D

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy

 In regards to Star Wars.
The prequel trilogy is not as bad as most would complain it is. I have an idea that make you love, or at least appreciate the master piece that is star wars.

To get you into the mood...

Listen to this as you read :D

For starters, if you have not seen star wars at all for some reason, watch the entire star wars saga in this order:
Episode 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6....and yes, if you must you can watch episode 7 now too.🙂

The reason behind this is you get to see young Luke Skywalker start grow up and be introduced to the ideals of this ancient order that had been wiped out called the Jedi Order. Then your introduced to this idea of a light side and a dark side - the Jedi and the Sith.

You're also introduced to the Galactic Empire and that it was once called the Galactic Republic, as well as an old war called the Clone Wars. And then of course there is Obi-Wan and Vader; Yoda and the Emperor.

But you watch episode 4 and 5, then you go back to episodes 1, 2, and 3 to see the characters in these movies basically proving what was talked about in episodes 4 and 5. You also see the creation of the iconic villain, Darth Vader - and you should pay attention to the similar character corelation between Luke Skywalker and Vader. As they are basically told by the emperor the same - join me and we can save your loved ones from dying.

Then you go to episode 6, the conclusion to the epic saga. And you watch the final battle - one of the best by the way. And you see the celebration at the end when everything has been concluded.

Are there issues with the writing of this story. Yes, absolutely - especially dialogue and character development (especially in the prequels).

However, if you really want an in depth connection to the star wars saga, you need more context. More background information. And thank Dave Filoni for being the coolest cat out there. He may have saved star wars. He created Star Wars the clone wars tv series - it has 6 seasons that give soooo much character depth to the characters in the prequel trilogy. It also gives more reasons as to why Vader fell to the dark side. It also gives a more heartbreaking connection to episode 3 - especially in regards to the clone troopers and order 66.

And now then there is a new tv series made by the awesome Dave Filoni again 🙂 called Star Wars rebels. Which is about how the rebellion against the Empire began. It also shows not all the jedi were killed during the Great Jedi Purge - and solidifies Vader as a truly powerful Villain, as he hunts down and kills the remainder of the jedi knights and this rebellion that is starting to gain ground.

After the rebels series there are some books out there - the newest called Ahsoka, which bridges a gap about what happened to Vader's apprentice after she left the jedi order - as well as some other important characters and explaining where they were during episode 3. But yes there are a couple books out there that give tons of character depth to those characters in the movies that have a dull presence if you watch them without the context.

And then when rogue one comes out (siked for this 🙂 )it will add more depth to the rebellion and I'm also guessing to vader himself. (These star wars stories are gonna be awesome cause they eill bridge the gap between the movies; there are about 5-10 years difference between each movie. In case you didn't know a lot can happen in five to ten years - a lot of character development).

But after you've watched and read all this (the books you don't really need but it will help give more context) then watch all the movies in chronological order - episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. In doing so you will have a better understanding of star wars. You will understand some references given. And you will finally see the master piece that is Star Wars.

And if you even deeper information, some of which is hinted at in star wars rebels, take a look at these video games - star wars knights of the old Republic (canonically play as a male) and knights of the old Republic 2 (canonically play as a female) and then you will be introduced to the best star wars story ever told (considered legends-noncanon right now, however I'm betting that'll change soon. There is some talk of turning these games into a Netflix tv series which would be epic. After that there is an mmorpg that takes a while after these two games - and this game has an even more expansive story (not as good as KoTOR but still pretty good). All these games take place about 3000 years before episode 1. In these games you are introduced to who the jedi and the sith are on a deeper level, as well as a better explanation as to what the force is and some new powers never talked about in the movies. These games add to your knowledge of star wars, giving you more context. So after you play these games you are able to sit and watch the movies with s far better understanding than you had before.

Now whenever I watch star wars, I watch episode 1, 2, the clone wars series, 3, rebels series, (soon to be rogue one), 4, 5, and 6. It takes much longer this way yes, but it will always remind you that there is something more to star wars that you would never understand from just watching the movies without this context.

So in my opinion it isn't that star wars has a story problem. The story is a good one talking about the idea of redemption. It's a context error. Without the context, without character depth, you will never truly understand the emotional connection to star wars.

And by the way if you watch the clone wars series make sure you watch them in order - just type in your search browser star wars the clone wars correct watching order. This is the link to that correct order - starwars.com. For example 201 means season 2 episode 1.  The clone wars is still on Netflix if ya wanna watch it.

And get hyped for rogue one!!! 🙂
