The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy

 In regards to Star Wars.
The prequel trilogy is not as bad as most would complain it is. I have an idea that make you love, or at least appreciate the master piece that is star wars.

To get you into the mood...

Listen to this as you read :D

For starters, if you have not seen star wars at all for some reason, watch the entire star wars saga in this order:
Episode 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6....and yes, if you must you can watch episode 7 now too.πŸ™‚

The reason behind this is you get to see young Luke Skywalker start grow up and be introduced to the ideals of this ancient order that had been wiped out called the Jedi Order. Then your introduced to this idea of a light side and a dark side - the Jedi and the Sith.

You're also introduced to the Galactic Empire and that it was once called the Galactic Republic, as well as an old war called the Clone Wars. And then of course there is Obi-Wan and Vader; Yoda and the Emperor.

But you watch episode 4 and 5, then you go back to episodes 1, 2, and 3 to see the characters in these movies basically proving what was talked about in episodes 4 and 5. You also see the creation of the iconic villain, Darth Vader - and you should pay attention to the similar character corelation between Luke Skywalker and Vader. As they are basically told by the emperor the same - join me and we can save your loved ones from dying.

Then you go to episode 6, the conclusion to the epic saga. And you watch the final battle - one of the best by the way. And you see the celebration at the end when everything has been concluded.

Are there issues with the writing of this story. Yes, absolutely - especially dialogue and character development (especially in the prequels).

However, if you really want an in depth connection to the star wars saga, you need more context. More background information. And thank Dave Filoni for being the coolest cat out there. He may have saved star wars. He created Star Wars the clone wars tv series - it has 6 seasons that give soooo much character depth to the characters in the prequel trilogy. It also gives more reasons as to why Vader fell to the dark side. It also gives a more heartbreaking connection to episode 3 - especially in regards to the clone troopers and order 66.

And now then there is a new tv series made by the awesome Dave Filoni again πŸ™‚ called Star Wars rebels. Which is about how the rebellion against the Empire began. It also shows not all the jedi were killed during the Great Jedi Purge - and solidifies Vader as a truly powerful Villain, as he hunts down and kills the remainder of the jedi knights and this rebellion that is starting to gain ground.

After the rebels series there are some books out there - the newest called Ahsoka, which bridges a gap about what happened to Vader's apprentice after she left the jedi order - as well as some other important characters and explaining where they were during episode 3. But yes there are a couple books out there that give tons of character depth to those characters in the movies that have a dull presence if you watch them without the context.

And then when rogue one comes out (siked for this πŸ™‚ )it will add more depth to the rebellion and I'm also guessing to vader himself. (These star wars stories are gonna be awesome cause they eill bridge the gap between the movies; there are about 5-10 years difference between each movie. In case you didn't know a lot can happen in five to ten years - a lot of character development).

But after you've watched and read all this (the books you don't really need but it will help give more context) then watch all the movies in chronological order - episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. In doing so you will have a better understanding of star wars. You will understand some references given. And you will finally see the master piece that is Star Wars.

And if you even deeper information, some of which is hinted at in star wars rebels, take a look at these video games - star wars knights of the old Republic (canonically play as a male) and knights of the old Republic 2 (canonically play as a female) and then you will be introduced to the best star wars story ever told (considered legends-noncanon right now, however I'm betting that'll change soon. There is some talk of turning these games into a Netflix tv series which would be epic. After that there is an mmorpg that takes a while after these two games - and this game has an even more expansive story (not as good as KoTOR but still pretty good). All these games take place about 3000 years before episode 1. In these games you are introduced to who the jedi and the sith are on a deeper level, as well as a better explanation as to what the force is and some new powers never talked about in the movies. These games add to your knowledge of star wars, giving you more context. So after you play these games you are able to sit and watch the movies with s far better understanding than you had before.

Now whenever I watch star wars, I watch episode 1, 2, the clone wars series, 3, rebels series, (soon to be rogue one), 4, 5, and 6. It takes much longer this way yes, but it will always remind you that there is something more to star wars that you would never understand from just watching the movies without this context.

So in my opinion it isn't that star wars has a story problem. The story is a good one talking about the idea of redemption. It's a context error. Without the context, without character depth, you will never truly understand the emotional connection to star wars.

And by the way if you watch the clone wars series make sure you watch them in order - just type in your search browser star wars the clone wars correct watching order. This is the link to that correct order - starwars.com. For example 201 means season 2 episode 1.  The clone wars is still on Netflix if ya wanna watch it.

And get hyped for rogue one!!! πŸ™‚
