Here are two scenes from the Abatral - Illum Story that I've been working on. Remember, I haven't edited anything yet, and I am still working on finishing the story. Hope you enjoy!
Please remember to leave any comments or advice; I'd appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks!
Scene Battle of Aquos Docks:
Yarmik raised his blade
menacingly at me and hissed, “Drop your weapons and surrender.” Then he roared, “Surrender and your friends
will be spared.”
This was probably a once
in a life time opportunity; to sacrifice myself and save my friends. But I was also reminded that Yarmik was a
master of deception. If we dropped our
swords, would Yarmik still kill Perseus and Randal?
“Drop them,” Yarmik
barked, making me jump.
I heard two people
approach from behind, their boots clacking against the pier. I glanced over my shoulder to see Perseus and
Randal take a defensive stance as two Black Hand Assassins approached.
Randal then whispered,
“I’m with you.”
“Till the end,” Perseus
added.
“Don’t be a fool,” Yarmik
sneered as I raised my blade at him.
“Stand down Yarmik and
let us pass. Your men don’t need to
die.”
Yarmik scowled and swung
his sword forcefully, crashing it into mine, making a metallic screech. He took a step back and took a fighting
stance.
Baring his teeth he
growled, “King Yurid wants you alive; but it appears I’ll be bringing you back
just barely.”
Yarmik swung his sword twice
with one hand, and I managed to parry his strikes, remembering quickly my old
masters fighting style; catching them off guard by quick strikes, then
delivering a strong blow, very similar to my own fighting style.
Surely enough, after the
second strike, Yarmik held his blade with both hands and struck at me
hard. I gripped my sword with both
hands, having no intention of losing to Yarmik.
Our swords locked with
the blow. His raw strength was almost
overpowering, but I managed to push with all my might forward, throwing
Yarmik’s hands backwards.
Back to one hand, Yarmik
struck swiftly multiple times, and I parried every strike. I began to take notice that Yarmik’s back was
to the water below the pier, and mine was to his ship.
Then I noticed that
Randle had killed the assassin he was fighting and was running behind me.
Randle yelled, “We can’t
beat him Illum. Let’s go!”
But Yarmik was
determined. His strikes became more
ferocious, as he was trying to keep me occupied.
I was distracted by what
Randle had said however, and let that get the better of me. I couldn’t successfully deflect Yarmik’s next
strike. It caught me off-guard, leaving
my upper body open for attack.
I saw it before it
happened. Intense pain began ripping across
my torso, from the top of my right shoulder to the center of my chest. I cried out in agony as a sadistic grin
formed on Yarmik’s scared faced.
I gripped my chest,
trying to put pressure on the wound. I
began to feel weak as I felt a liquid beginning to slowly cover my hand. I looked up in pain at Yarmik, and tried to
stand back up to fight; to shake off the pain.
Then Yarmik prepared to strike again, in a move that he taught me that
would cripple your enemy if done correctly.
I tried to raise my sword as Yarmik began his strike.
But Yarmik’s attack
stopped as he suddenly roared in pain, letting loose of his sword, which
clanged to the deck of the pier. I
looked up and saw two arrows in him. One
sticking out of the top of his right shoulder and the other in his right hand.
In Yarmik’s brief distraction,
I saw an opening. With what little
strength I had left, I kicked him in the chest; which in hindsight was a bad
idea because his chest was cased in metal body armor, so my foot instantly
started hurting. The good part was my
kick was pretty effective because Yarmik fell backwards and off the side of the
pier. A few seconds later, I could hear
the satisfying sound of him splashing into the water.
I stood there amazed that
I had actually beaten Yarmik; that I had just kicked him into the water. As I stared at the spot where Yarmik had
fallen off the pier, my vision got kind of fuzzy. My chest hurt terribly, but I felt like I
would be alright once I got to the White
Torch.
I stared over at the
water where Yarmik had fallen, and heard my old teacher roaring, “I’ll catch
you Illum. If it’s the last thing I do!”
Scene aboard the White Torch, Illum's Ship:
Dr. Phlox walked over to
me and said, “Well it looks like you’re free to go Captain.”
Phlox began removing my
bandages and throwing them away. He put
a new bandage on after he had checked my wound, and commented, “It is almost
completely healed, Sir.”
Phlox picked up the old
bandages, walked over to his desk, and threw them away. He grabbed something lying near his desk and
walked back with it. I recognized the
item as one of my woolen undershirts.
He handed me my shirt,
and I put it on, feeling minor pain to my back because of the movement. I threw my blankets off and slowly placed my
feet on the floor. I began to stand up,
feeling a little bit light headed.
“Ease into it Captain,” Phlox warned. “You haven’t walked for six days.”
“Oh, I’ll be fine,” I
protested as I began to walk toward the stairs.
I could feel myself
stumbling around. I rubbed my forehead,
still feeling lightheaded.
“You look like that Drunk
we met in Appitope.”
I looked up in the
direction of the new voice, and saw Percy standing at the foot of the stairs,
with a big smile.
“Yeah,” I rolled my eyes,
thinking of a comeback. “Except that Drunk
threw up on your boots if I remember right.”
I looked up and smiled at Percy, who just shook his head.
“Yeah, well I almost beat
that drunk up.”
“And I stopped you. Good thing too, right?”
“Yeah,” Percy
chuckled. “Never would have gotten those
horses.”
We laughed for a couple
of seconds. If it weren’t for that
Drunk, we would have never of reached Bruqon.
Yarmik could have caught us in Appitope.
An odd set of coincidences if you ask me.
“I think I’m gonna head
up to the helm,” I finally said.
“Alright, I’ll help you,”
Percy said as he approaching me.
“No,” I yelled, holding
my hand up. I was done being helped with
everything. “I’ve got this.”
I took a step forward,
and quickly lost my balance. Before I
knew what was happening, I was half way to the floor. It was only because Perseus had lunged
forward and caught me, that I didn’t smack my face on the floor.
Percy helped me up and
with sarcasm said, “Don’t worry, I got this.”
I shook my head as I let Perseus
help me to the stairs. Percy laughed and
commented, “Why do you gotta be so darn stubborn Illum?”
“Part of my charm,” I
jabbed. We both laughed.
When we reached the
stairs however, both our smiles faded as a deafening ringing, echoed above
us.
Percy looked at me with
concern. Recognizing how the bell was
ringing, I said, “An Abatral Ship.”
“Yarmik,” Percy
concluded, his face turning pale.
