Our World War Review

Yes, being a Social Studies Education Major, I watch documentaries lol.

However, I watched this documentary that was made unlike any I had seen before.  It was called Our World War.

Watch the Trailer:

This documentary was made unlike anything I had ever seen before, as I already said.  It was filmed as though it was a mix of regular documentary, where the narrator talks about the events that are going on, and with live action story, where you actually see characters living out the historical events.  All the events were based off of stories told by veterans and from soldiers diaries.

Before watching this, I knew very  little about World War One.  I guess I never realized how much Europe was in deep over their heads during most of the war.  They practically destroyed all of their lands.

But anyway, I loved this documentary mostly because I loved that it was told mostly from a story point-of-view, with actual characters.  That is why this is one of the best documentaries I've ever watched because it humanizes the soldiers that fought in the war.  Now what would truly be interesting is if they had the German/Austrian perspective on the war.  Being a history major, I just would like to know their perspective too.

There are only three episodes in the series that are about an hour long, so it's not like it would be hard to watch it all.  That's another good reason you should watch it.

If you wanna learn more about World War One I recommend the following movies:

War Horse
Not the most historically accurate movie, but they did do their homework on this
It definitely has an emphasis on the changing of war tactics from the old traditional style to a newer modern warfare style.

The Lost Battalion
The Lost Battalion is a good movie based on US involvement during World War I.
It shows what happened during the battles that occurred in the Argonne Forest.
It also depicts, kind of accurately, Trench Warfare.

All Quiet on the Western Front
Plus, I like this one because it has the German Perspective in it, which never was depicted before.
I think was interesting movie because it showed the German Perspective.
Whether or not that made it accurate, kind of up in the air.

Flyboys
This movie was probably not the most historically accurate movie on this list.
However, it was one of the few movies I found that depicts the use of airplanes.
After all, World War I was the first war that used aerial combat.
So in that since it was ok.

Anyway, I hope that you guys will be able to watch the Documentary "Our World War," which as of right now is on Netflix.  I also hope you get a chance to watch some of these movies to learn a couple new things about World War I.

If you have any other movie or documentary suggestion comment them either here on my blog or on the Facebook post
